Shedding some hair every day is a normal part of the hair growth cycle. It becomes a concern when you notice clearly more than usual for several weeks, a widening parting, or patches.
Common causes
- Stress and poor sleep. A stressful few months often shows up as shedding a little later.
- Diet. Low protein, iron or vitamin intake can affect hair.
- Hormonal changes. After pregnancy, with thyroid changes, or with age.
- Harsh care. Hot water, tight hairstyles, heat styling and strong shampoos.
When to see a doctor
If hair fall is sudden, patchy, comes with itching, pain or redness, or follows an illness, see a dermatologist. A hair oil supports a healthy scalp; it does not replace a diagnosis.
A gentle weekly routine
- Twice a week: champi with a herbal oil, ten minutes of massage, left overnight.
- Next morning: wash with a sulphate-free cleanser and lukewarm water.
- After washing: condition the lengths only and pat dry with cotton.
- Every day: wide-toothed comb, loose hairstyles, enough water and sleep.
Give any routine eight to twelve weeks before judging it. Hair grows slowly and results vary from person to person.
